Power Dynamics
This year we have had a lot of change in the administration at our school. We still have an interim principal as our leader, and it has been very difficult. What I have found that when administration ultimately make the final decisions regarding issues at a school, and if that administrator doesn't have the experience working in that particular education setting it can be a very rough year not only for the teachers, but for the parents and students as well. What I have experienced is if you have any issues it is best to follow a "chain of command." You discuss with your team lead, and then with your administrator who then makes the final decision.

I fully agree that it is best to use the "chain of command" to get issues resolved.
ReplyDeleteI always use the "chain of command" of my school as well. I have learned the hard way that you should always follow this rule. I talked with my director about a problem and they asked me if I had talked with the education chair. When I told him no they told me that I should not be speaking to them unless I discussed the problem with my education chair first. It made me feel so small and very intimated.
ReplyDeleteI wish my school had a "chain of command" in place. We used to have one before our assistant principal left our school unexpectedly for a principal job. I think many of my coworkers think I am part of the chain of command because I am a test coordinator and have worked at our school several years. You have to go to the principal if you have a question or concern. I agree that you typically should follow the chain of commands.
